What does a Westie puppy actually cost?

Westie puppies from breeders and online listings typically sell for anywhere between £850 and £3,000 or more, depending on pedigree and breeder. That up-front price is often just the start: vaccinations, insurance, food, and the usual vet visits all add up over a dog’s lifetime.

Adopting instead costs a fraction of that. Our adoption contribution goes directly towards the vet care, food, bedding and support each dog needs while they’re with us, and every dog comes to you already health-checked, microchipped, and neutered or spayed where appropriate.

What are Westies really like to live with?

Westies are intelligent, energetic little terriers, originally bred to hunt small vermin, and that history shows: they’re confident, strong-willed, and form very close bonds with their families. They need consistent, patient training and daily exercise to be at their best.

Skin and ear sensitivities are common in the breed, and it’s something we see often first-hand. Several of the Westies who’ve come through our care over the years, including Teddy, Winnie and Tilly, have needed ongoing treatment for sore skin or ears. It’s very manageable with the right care, but it’s a real, honest part of owning a Westie that’s worth knowing about upfront.

How long do Westies live?

With good care, Westies typically live 12 to 16 years. It’s a long commitment, and one worth thinking through carefully before bringing a puppy home, bought or adopted.
